WHY AND HOW TO USE A BODY BRUSH

Dry body brushing is a method of body exfoliation that has been practiced for centuries in many cultures but is having a resurgence as of late thanks to the booming wellness movement. The treatment is done at home or in a spa by a professional by buffing dry skin with a special exfoliating brush to slough off the top layer of dead skin cells, smoothing its texture. But what are the benefits of dry brushing?

BENEFITS

Increases Blood Flow

Dry body brushing is said to energize the body, increases circulation and blood flow, and stimulates drainage from the lymphatic system to smooth skin's surface, sweep away flakes and dry patches, and even out lumps and bumps, including cellulite. Any type of exfoliation can usually help to prevent ingrown hairs as well, by clearing dead skin cells that can trap hair under skin's surface.

Detoxifying the skin

The mechanical action of dry brushing is excellent for exfoliating rough, dry skin. Dry brushing unclogs pores in the exfoliation process. It also helps detoxify your skin by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage.  Also, by unclogging pores, it’s easier for the body to sweat and eliminate toxins in your system.

Relaxation

Like a massage, dry brushing may make you feel relaxed. To make the most of this benefit, practice dry brushing in a dark, quiet space.

Energizing

Maybe it's the increased circulation, or maybe it's simply the few extra minutes indulging in a self-care ritual, but most people feel invigorated and energized after a dry brush session. And there's no denying dry brushing just feels good on the skin (if it doesn't, you're probably brushing too hard).

What if I have sensitive skin, can I still brush?

Proceed with caution. “Dry brushing can irritate sensitive skin so it’s probably best to avoid it. Instead try chemical exfoliators. For any skin type, it’s important not to brush the skin too hard. Dry brushing should not hurt, so ease up on the amount of pressure you use with the brush. Gentle massage is always best.”

What brush should I use to dry brush?

To get the benefits of dry brushing you’ll want to use a natural stiff-bristled bath or shower brush, preferably one with a long handle. Some bristles are stiffer than others, and it depends on your skin’s sensitivity and preference. The long handle is helpful for tough-to-reach areas like your back.

When should I dry brush?

The best time to dry brush is just before a shower. Then you can wash off any dead skin cells and flaky skin. Be sure to apply lotion afterward to put moisture back into your skin.

Do I Still Need a Body Cream?

You’ll find your body products go on smoother, sink into the skin faster and work harder because you have incorporated body brushing into your routine. After showering, make sure you replenish skin with a body lotion that contains hydrating, nourishing and soothing ingredients. We recommend using body creams with CBD Extract ingredient. It calms and sooth the skin, leaving your skin rejuvenated and hydrated.
