WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLERS?

Wrinkle treatment options are increasingly abundant. There are numerous over-the-counter products, and people are also turning to their healthcare providers for longer-lasting options. Botulinum toxin type A (Botox) and dermal fillers are both long-lasting treatments. Each procedure can be used for wrinkles, but there are several differences between the two to consider.

Botox

Botox is the most well-known brand name for a prescriptive medicine called Botulinum Toxin (like how we “hoover” the house, when it’s vacuum!)  Botox and other brands are a natural, purified form of the botulinum toxin protein that is obtained from bacteria. This method of treatment has been used safely for decades, both in medical and cosmetic medicine. Although it may sound daunting, it’s one of the safest products out there for aesthetics treatments.

Botox works well on wrinkles or fine lines caused by muscle movement in the face, commonly the upper face or arising the mouth. Botox will reduce or prevent movement lines (those that appear when you make an expression, such as frown). If you already have resting lines (this is a line that remains on your face when you are not making any expression) Botox will also soften these lines but it may take a few treatments if the lines are deep.

Lifting serum

This Intense Serum is packed with an optimal concentration of Hyaluronic Molecules and Vitamin C compounds. Panthenol and Allantoin creates a fine non-greasy film on the skin that effectively improves collagen production and contributes to faster skin cell regeneration while Vitamin C contributes to gently brighten skin and create an even skin tone. When used as of part daily skincare routine the Intense Recovery HydraLift Serum improves the skin elasticity, and acts as a super-hydrator, improving skin health and reducing the formation of wrinkles caused by dehydration.

Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin. Dermal fillers are meant to create a smoother or fuller appearance, or both. Treat static wrinkles that are still visible when muscles aren’t moving, such as smile lines and lines underneath the eyes. Use hyaluronic acids to add volume to hollow areas of the face, creating fuller, more youthful-looking skin. Treat wrinkles anywhere on the face and some areas of the body, such as the hands. The FDA regulates dermal fillers as medical devices. As reported in clinical trials, the effects of most FDA-approved dermal fillers are temporary because they are made from materials that the body eventually breaks down and absorbs. The injection procedure may have to be repeated to maintain the desired effect.

Do dermal fillers last longer than Botox?

The answer is Yes. Botox lasts three to four months. Dermal fillers can last up to 18 months

The results of both treatments can vary and depend on:

 - the type and brand of filler used

-  the type and brand of botulinum toxin (Botox) used

- how much filler or Botox is injected

- how much your muscles move in the area you’ve had treated

How about you? Would you have it done?
